Exploring the abandoned and decaying Fort Gilkicker (1871)
Fort Gilkicker, Gosport
Erected between 1863 and 1871, Fort Gilkicker was constructed to defend the deepwater anchorage at Stokes Bay. It consisted of 22 gun emplacements designed to deliver devastating gun fire towards the approach of portsmouth harbour. In 1956 coastal defence was abolished and the fort was repurposed up until 1999 when it was finally abandoned. A quarter of these shots are taken by Gus Williams.
